Same Church. New Name: Riverwalk Church

Jun 13, 2023

Dear Riverwalk Church,

It was such a joy to celebrate together this past Sunday and introduce our new name and logo as a church! Thank you all for making our summer launch special.

Our new name and logo connect us to our mission and vision. We WALK with God and one another in relationship, towards Jesus’ mission of RECONCILING all things, including our everyday spaces of life.

In Mark 3:13-19, Jesus calls his disciples to him “that they might be with him and that he might send them out... That they might be with him AND that he might send them out. Twin calls, “yes and” calls, ampersand calls of discipleship - two invitations from Jesus to his disciples then and now that go hand in hand.

When we hear our name, Riverwalk Church, the hope is that we would be reminded that we are a community learning to live and love like Jesus in the everyday spaces of life. We are being formed into people of reconciliation who — like a river — seek flourishing and fullness of life wherever we are. And we are not called to Jesus’ mission alone but in relationship with one another as we seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.

If you were to ask the different members of our Rebranding Team what they like the most about our new logo, you might get a variety of answers, but the three things I love most about our new logo are:

  • The ripples of a river: This represents the reconciling and life-giving movement of God’s Spirit (particularly evoking Amos 5:24, “let justice roll down like a river!”)
  • Comprised of people alongside one another: This reminds me that God invites ordinary people like you and me into a relationship with God and with one another to see Jesus’ mission of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18) fulfilled.
  • Going and coming in multi-directional motion: This evokes a sense of dynamic “sent-ness”. Wherever we are and wherever we go, God sends us as ambassadors and witnesses of his mission of reconciliation.

Reconciliation. Relationship. Riverwalk.

So is all of it official now? Yes and no

It’s kind of like what happens when you get married and if you choose to change your name. After the wedding, you start going by your new name, but it can take some time to update all your paperwork and let everyone in your life know. That will be will be true for us, too - we have lots of paperwork, signage, and relationships to update; build a website; get new email addresses, etc. So for a while, you may still see “Highrock Brookline” on things, and there may be some glitches along the way.

Thanks for your patience and your help (we need it!) as we update everything bit by bit! We look forward to our more official-official launch in the Fall on SEPTEMBER 24. Please mark your calendars!

In the meantime...let’s keep celebrating all God has done and is doing in this season.

With Joy and Celebration for what God has Done,
Pastor Kat
