As you embark on this Lenten Journey, there are many different resources out there for you to use and aside from the suggestions below, you should definitely explore and find something that you think will be beneficial. But the main thing to keep in mind is that along this 40 day journey, you want to try and create intentional space for you to connect with God. Whether you choose to read, pray, listen to music, spend time with others, serve those in need, whatever it may be, consider how that specific thing is directing you towards a deeper relationship with Christ and an awareness of His in-dwelling Spirit and remind yourself each time.
One of the primary things we encourage you to do on your Lenten Journey is to fast. Fasting is a wonderful spiritual discipline that helps create space for you not only to deny your flesh of earthly things and increase your reliance on God but also to create space and opportunity to become more aware of His presence and be renewed in Him.
We encourage you to give something up whether it be meals, a particular food or drink, entertainment, social media, etc. AND/OR to take something up. Give up something that you feel is distracting you from relying on or pursuing God and/or make a commitment to take something up like setting aside a specific time to pray, read Scripture, listen to music, go for a walk, share a meal with someone, serve the underserved, etc.
Whatever your fast may be, one simple practice that can be incorporated is simply reminding yourself of God’s presence. For example, if food in some form is something you are fasting from, when you are feeling the effects of hunger or want, take a moment to remind yourself that God is the ultimate source of sustenance and provision and thank Him for that.
