How do I add events to my calendar?

On this website, you have two options: (1) subscribe to all events on the calendar, or (2) import specific events from our calendar to yours. We’ll deal with each of these in turn.

A few notes before we begin.

  • You will need a calendar application, also called a calendar client, that allows you to subscribe to or import calendar data from external sources (like Apple Calendar or Microsoft Outlook, as well as mobile device calendar apps) or a website-based calendar program that allows for the same (like Google’s web calendar, or online versions of Outlook).
  • Your calendar app must support the iCal format. iCal is a file format ending in .ics (not to be confused with iCalendar, which is what Apple used to call its desktop calendar application).
  • We have attempted to provide guidance on some common calendar apps here, but the list is not exhaustive. If you don’t find what you need here, try running a Google search for “iCal and .”
  • iCal, although the de facto standard for online calendar subscriptions, may behave differently in different calendar apps, depending on how the developers of those apps have implemented the iCal standard.
  • Events added to one of your calendar apps (e.g., Microsoft Outlook on your laptop) may or may not automatically appear on your other calendar apps on other devices (e.g., your smartphone). Cross-device syncing depends on numerous factors, such as which calendar app you are using, whether you are using the same or different apps across devices, certain settings in those apps, and other factors which are beyond the scope of this article. If events from the website do not sync across your devices, you may need to add the events to each of your devices separately.

Subscribe to the Whole Calendar

Subscribing to the calendar means that all events on the website calendar will be added to your calendar application. Additionally, as new events are added, or existing events are changed, those changes should be reflected in your calendar app. You can think of this as a (more or less) real-time subscription to the website calendar; calendar data in your app will be updated to reflect the latest data on the website each time your calendar app pings the website.

You can find the Highrock calendar subscription link on the main calendar page, under the search box, where it says SUBSCRIBE TO THIS CALENDAR.

Here are subscription instructions for a few common calendar apps:

Outlook Desktop | Outlook Online | Mac Apple Calendar | iOS Devices | Google Calendar | Android Devices

Outlook 2007 and later

  1. On the calendar page, click Subscribe to this Calendar. You might be prompted to acknowledge that you are opening a hyperlink and/or select an application with which to open the link. If so, select Outlook from the list and click Open Link.
  2. At the prompt, Add this Internet Calendar to Outlook and subscribe to updates, click Yes. The Internet Calendar opens in side-by-side view in the Outlook Calendar and is added to the Navigation Pane in Calendar view under Other Calendars.

  2. Under the Outlook Calendar navigation bar, click the New down arrow, and click Add calendar.
  3. Click From internet, and in the Link to the calendar box, copy and paste the calendar subscription link address. In the Calendar name box, enter a name for the linked calendar. Click Save.

Mac desktops/laptops using Apple Calendar

Once set up on your Mac, you can use iCloud to add the calendar to your iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.). Note: to use iCloud this way, you must first set up the calendar on your Mac computer; subscribing on a phone or tablet first will only add the calendar to that device.

  1. In Calendar, choose File > New Calendar Subscription.
  2. Copy and paste the calendar subscription link address, then click Subscribe.
  3. Enter a name for the calendar and choose a color to help you identify it on your calendar.
  4. Choose iCloud from the Location menu, then click OK.
  5. If you wish to add this subscription to iOS devices via iCloud, make sure that your iOS device and computer are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.

iOS devices (iPhones and iPads) ONLY

Note: for cross-device syncing across multiple Mac/iOS devices, see the section on Mac desktops/laptops above.

  1. Navigate to the calendar page on the website and click Subscribe to this Calendar. You will be asked if you want to subscribe to the calendar. Click Subscribe.
  2. You can enable/disable viewing the calendar in the iOS calendar app by clicking Calendars at the bottom of the app, then scrolling to the section labeled Subscribed.

Google Calendar

  1. Open your web browser and navigate to Google calendar (calendar.google.com).
  2. Next to Other calendars on the left, click the Down arrow.
  3. Select Add by URL.
  4. Copy and paste the calendar's subscription link address in the field provided.
  5. Click Add Calendar. The calendar will appear on the left side under "Other calendars."

Android Devices

  1. Follow the instructions above for adding the subscription to your Google Calendar.
  2. Open Android’s Calendar app, open the settings make sure your Google account is checked, then select Sync Now.
  3. You may need to select the Google account calendar, then under Other Calendars check the Highrock calendar in the list of subscribed calendars (by default, Other Calendars may not be checked).

Import Single Events

Our calendar offers the option to import specific events into your calendar app. Importing an iCal (.ics)  file or adding via the Google Cal link provides a snapshot of the event at the time of import. Note, however, that the event info is static and won’t be updated automatically, even if we make an update to the event on the website (e.g., a change in location). That’s why it’s a good idea to double-check the website at the time of the event to make sure nothing has changed.

The first thing you’ll want to do is navigate to the page of the individual event on the website. Then follow the instructions for your calendar app:

Outlook Desktop | Outlook Online | Mac Apple Calendar | iOS Devices | Google Calendar | Android Devices

Many other calendar apps, for example the Google Calendar app for iOS, or Mozilla Lightning, support the iCal format. Read the application’s documentation, examine the app’s settings or consult with the app’s developers for specific instructions.
